Spray the half that needs it, leave the half that does not

Half of this 60-hectare wheat field had volunteer beans. The other half was clean. There was no reason to spray ground with no weeds on it.

The field was mapped by drone and processed in CultiWise to show exactly where the beans were, and where they weren’t. That became a simple prescription map: spray the 30 hectares with beans, leave the other 30 alone. Galaxy (fluroxypyr) went on at 1 L/ha.

Here is where the saving comes from. Spraying the whole field at that rate would have cost €17 per hectare. James sprayed only half of it, so spread across the full 60 hectares the herbicide bill worked out at €8.50 per hectare. Half the product, half the cost, and 100% control on the beans. The clean half never saw a drop.

Result

100% control on the volunteer beans, half the herbicide, and €8.50/ha saved across the field.
