Post-emergent selective herbicide application

For a maize field with a Cirsium arvense infestation, spot-spraying selective herbicide proves to be highly efficient. Targeting only the weed-infested patches significantly reduces herbicide, fuel, and machine time costs. This approach minimizes crop stress, preserving yield and quality, all while maintaining weed control efficiency. Additionally, it’s more environmentally friendly and ensures compliance with EU regulations and restrictions.

The field was mapped with a 12-minute drone flight to capture a clear snapshot of its current state, allowing us to identify Cirsium arvense in maize (BBCH 12) . With CultiWise and AI support, each weed was precisely located within the field. This allowed us to create a Green-on-Green prescription map, ensuring herbicide treatment was applied exclusively to the infested areas, while maize remained untouched.

The prescription map, detailing the required herbicide amounts, was then sent to the Agrifac sprayer operator. The sprayer applied the precise amount of herbicide, minimizing waste and ensuring effective weed control with no overspray and no leftover mixture.

Result

Same weed-control efficacy with over 50 % less herbicide, lower input costs, crop stress, and environmental impact.
